A late Score Costs Bentonville West Against Van Buren.
Bentonville West Wolverines lost the lead late in a 2-1 defeat to Van Buren on Wednesday. The game was tied at one with Van Buren batting in the top of the fifth when a runner scored on a RBI ground ball.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Van Buren pitchers struck out seven, while Bentonville West sat down five.
Van Buren captured the lead in the second inning. With no outs in the second inning J Douglas drove in a run when he hit a RBI single to center.
Bentonville West knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the third inning. Bentonville West scored a run when Will Jarrett singled with two outs in the third inning.
E Holmes earned the win for Van Buren. He tossed seven innings, giving up one run, four hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Hunter Mayes took the loss for Bentonville West. He pitched five innings, giving up two runs, five hits, and striking out three.
Joey Aden, Kendall Thornton, Zach Trammell, and Jarrett each collected one hit to lead Bentonville West.
