FAYETTEVILLE — The Bentonville West duo of wide receiver Jadon Jackson (6-2, 180) and linebacker Kendall Young (6-5, 220) were in Fayetteville on Friday night for Arkansas’ Woo Pig Nic cookout and left impressed with the event.
Both Jackson and Young have Razorback offers with the wideout down to a final five of Arkansas, Georgia, Ole Miss, Auburn and Oklahoma State and Young saying he will announce between Arkansas,Missouri and Vanderbilt between Sept. 7 and Sept. 21.
“It was fun getting to meet some of the other players being recruited by Arkansas,” Jackson said. “Coaches make you feel welcomed as always. It was good to talk to (Razorback wide receivers Coach (Justin) Stepp again and get to spend some time with him and the other coaches, too.”
Young also enjoyed the event, which featured a barbecue, games, music, a dance off and lots of interaction with Razorback coaches and the some 50-plus commits and recruiting targets on hand.
“It went good,” Young said. “It actually allowed me to get a better relationship with all the coaches and I got to talk with (defensive coordinator) Coach (John) Chavis and (defensive ends) Coach (Steve) Caldwell.”
The visit also apparently helped Arkansas with Young.
“I want to say they have got to be to be my top school, but it is definitely between them and Mizzou,” Young said.
Jackson, who had 61 catches for 1,439 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, is not in a hurry to make a decision.
“This season, I am just going to focus a little bit more on football,” Jackson said. “I still have a thought in the back of my mind to commit sometime during the season, but right now I am just worried about the team.”
Bentonville West went 9-2 last season while winning its first nine games before losing to Bentonville and Conway in its final two contests of the season.
The Wolverines open up the 2018 season with visiting Owasso, Oka., the defending Oklahoma Class 6A state champions on August 24th.
“We worked really hard last year and fell short and we just have to come back stronger and better,” Jackson said. “Everybody get faster and stronger, work on their talents and just try to win it all this year.”
While most schools are looking at Jackson strictly as a wide receiver, Arkansas is looking at him as an athlete.
“It feels good that I am not being looked at as just a receiver. I think it is great how they are looking at me as a player that can play on... Click here to read full article
